Little Steps to Reading
Little stories help big skills grow. Children discover new words, explore sounds, and build the confidence to begin their reading journey.
Once upon a time…
I have spent more than 35 years helping young children learn, grow and discover the joy of reading, and I still believe some of childhood's most magical moments begin with those four words. A story can make a child laugh, calm a worried heart, introduce a new idea, or turn an ordinary bedtime into a memory they carry for years.

Soft brushed fleece, a full length zip and a watercolor shark cruising through the seagrass right across the front. It is the piece children pick out for themselves and then refuse to take off for the school run, the aquarium trip and every beach day in between. The print carries round the sleeves and the hem instead of sitting as a flat square on the chest, so it still reads properly once it has been washed a hundred times. Cut roomy enough to pull straight over a swimsuit or a school shirt.
Children think they are simply enjoying a good story. We know they are learning along the way.

Every adventure brings a chance to learn about friendship, understand big feelings, and grow in kindness, courage, and self-confidence.
From fascinating sea creatures to the wonders of everyday life, each story sparks curiosity and inspires children to explore the world around them.
Created and tested with real preschoolers, every story has been shared with little learners and refined before becoming available in print or PDF.
For over 40 years, we have helped preschoolers build a strong foundation for learning in our classrooms. Now, we’re bringing that experience into your home! Each video class includes an accompanying curriculum with hands-on activities to help your child practice essential preschool concepts and prepare for kindergarten.
We continue to create engaging classes that spark curiosity, build confidence, and make learning fun. Our mission is simple: every child deserves a strong academic start, regardless of their family’s income or circumstances.
If you are buying for a two or three year old, The Brave Little Crab and Little Duck Feels Nervous are the two that get read first most often. For four to six year olds, Be a Friend and The Nut That Was Too Big carry a little more story. Independent readers usually want the Fact or Fiction titles.
The activity workbooks and flash cards are digital files. Nothing is posted to you. You download the PDF straight after checkout and print the pages yourself, at home or in a classroom, as many times as you need.
Parents and grandparents reading at bedtime, and teachers and homeschoolers who need something that works out loud in front of a group. The stories were written by a teacher, so they are paced for short attention spans and built to be read again the next day.
Printed orders are packed within one to three business days and usually arrive three to seven business days after that inside the United States. The exact cost depends on the weight of your order and shows in full at checkout before you pay.
You have 30 days from delivery to send a printed book back for a refund, as long as it comes back unread and in its packaging. If anything arrives damaged, send a photo and we will replace it without sending you round in circles.
Photographs and notes sent in by the parents, grandparents and teachers who read these books at bedtime, at circle time and in the car on the way to school.
